A Keyence clamp-on flow sensor that measures through the pipe wall.

¶ What it measures
Instantaneous and accumulated flow, and two temperatures — see Flow.

¶ Notes
- Takes around 15 seconds to become ready after power-up, noticeably longer than most sensors.
- Reports a flow-stability level, and separate error bits for each internal sensor, so a partial failure is visible.
- It clamps onto the outside of the pipe; no cutting or pipe modification is needed.
- Keyence specifies it for metal and hard plastic pipe only. Match the pipe outer diameter to the 8A or 10A range above.
- The pipe must be full of liquid. A large quantity of bubbles stops the ultrasonic signal and the reading.
- To keep the pipe full, Keyence’s general flow guidance is to mount on a low section of pipe, or on a section where the flow runs upward.
- When the display unit is mounted directly on the sensor head, the ambient and fluid temperature ratings are de-rated.
- Upstream straight-run requirements for the FD-H10 were not found in the documents checked. Keyence’s general flow guidance is a straight section of at least 5 × the bore upstream of a flow meter.
- The accuracy figures apply after a zero adjustment. Actual error depends on the pipe type and condition, the fluid and its temperature.
¶ Maintenance
- Zero-adjust after installing or moving the sensor. Accuracy is specified after zero adjustment. Do it with the pipe full and the flow stopped.
- Watch the stability level. A drop in flow stability with the process unchanged points to air in the line, a loose clamp, or a problem at the pipe surface.
- Check the clamp. Confirm the mounting bracket is tight and the sensor element sits flat on the pipe. The sensor element is special rubber; inspect it for damage or contamination when the sensor is removed.
- Check the error bits. The sensor reports a separate error for the flow sensor, each temperature sensor, the concentration sensor and a common sensor error, so the failed part can be identified.
