Read this before installing, wiring, or servicing an InteliHive controller. It covers what is specific to the InteliHive; the fundamentals that apply to the whole system are in Safety.
The InteliHive is installed in systems that combine mains electricity, pressurized piping, and hazardous chemicals, and it starts equipment on its own. Read the Safety fundamentals before working on it or on anything it controls.
Work through the fundamentals that apply to the job:
The InteliHive is powered by 24 V DC from an external supply. The supply itself is mains-powered, and the equipment the InteliHive switches — pumps, valves, blowdown solenoids — is very often line voltage.
A controller that is “powered off” at its own input does not isolate its outputs. The relay boards and wireless switches it controls are fed from their own circuits.
See Wiring for terminal detail and supply sizing.
The InteliHive starts pumps and opens valves on its own, with no operator present and no warning.
Before working on any connected equipment, physically isolate the actuator. Disabling the control mode is not isolation.
Control-mode safety policies, interlocks, wireless failsafes, and rate limits reduce risk but are not a substitute for physical isolation. They are software, they can be misconfigured, and they must never be your only protection for a person working on the equipment.
